Frequently asked questions

These answers are intentionally short. If you need help with a specific situation, message the club and we’ll help you work through it.

Fees & payment

How much does it cost to play?

Estimated yearly fees are posted on the club fees page: View St. Louis Legends fees

Do families have to pay everything up front?

No. The club offers monthly payment options to help families manage competitive soccer costs. Monthly payments are due on the first of each month.

Do families pay full fees if a player skips a season?

Families are not billed coaching fees for seasons they do not play. Club fees continue during the year because they support shared operating costs and preserve roster continuity.

What do club fees cover?

Club fees help cover items such as the website, SportsEngine, accounting software, office supplies, phone service, insurance, and practice field rental. Monthly club fees are listed as $79.

Are sibling discounts available?

Not at this time.

What if my family cannot afford club and coaching fees?

The club offers volunteer opportunities to reduce costs and may offer scholarships for families experiencing financial hardship. Scholarships apply to club and coaching fees, not outside costs such as uniforms, league fees, or tournament fees.

Rosters & player placement

Can my child dual roster and play more games?

Possibly. Dual rostering is handled case by case and requires coach approval.

Can my child play up an age group?

Yes, when the club believes it supports development and a roster spot is available. Players should generally compete with players of similar ability, and playing up is offered when it is the right challenge.

What if no older roster spot is available?

Because Legends is a no-cut club, roster spots are based first on birth year, roster limits, and then individual ability. Advanced players may be encouraged to attend older-team practices so they can keep growing.

Will my child lose a roster spot if they do not play year round?

No, as long as the family is current on the monthly club portion of fees.

Seasons, practices & multi-sport athletes

Is year-round soccer required?

No. Year-round play is encouraged because it keeps touches and development consistent, but the club supports multi-sport athletes and is flexible with families.

Why are club fees still required if my child is not playing a season?

Operating costs continue even when an individual player sits out, and the fee helps keep the roster spot available. This approach allows families to choose other sports without being forced out of the club.

When are practice schedules released?

Practice schedules are typically released around July 1 and posted on the website and in SportsEngine.

How many practices are scheduled each week?

Every team has a minimum of two scheduled team practices per week.

Are practices mandatory?

Practice is not strictly mandatory, and makeup options may be available. However, players who repeatedly miss practice may receive significantly less game time because consistent training drives development.

Coaching & player development

Are the coaches qualified?

Coaches are licensed or certified, complete background checks, and complete annual concussion protocol and SafeSport training. All teams are trained around Legends principles, individual brilliance, and love of the game.

Who leads the coaching program?

Director of Coaching Scott Gaither holds a USSF C License, played nine years professionally, and has more than 34 years of youth coaching experience, including high school and college coaching roles.

Tournaments

Do Legends teams play tournaments?

Yes. Tournament plans may include local events and travel tournaments depending on the team, player development needs, family interest, and what families want or are able to do.

What if my child cannot attend a tournament?

The club understands that families have different schedules and budgets. Tournament participation is communicated in advance, and the club works with families when unavoidable conflicts happen.

If my child misses a tournament, do we still pay?

If the tournament falls within a season your child is participating in, the family is responsible for the player’s tournament fee. If it falls outside the player’s current season, the family is not responsible for that tournament fee.
